Abstract
The usage of the library automation system in Library State University of Malang was done to support the activities of library services, which is the circulation service. Library State University of Malang implemented Sistem Informasi Perpustakaan Terpadu (SIPADU) to facilitate the circulation service activities. According to the results of observations, SIPADU management needed to be maximized because sometimes user’s needs have not been well fasilited by SIPADU. This research aims to describe and analyze the effectiveness of SIPADU in supporting circulation services in the Library State University of Malang. Moreover, this research also focusses in describing and analysing restricting factors effectiveness of SIPADU in supporting circulation services in the Library State University of Malang. This research used qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were observation, interviews, and documentation. Then, the informants were librarians and users selected by purposive sampling technique. Thus, data analysis technique was Interactive Model by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014) by the data condensation, the data presentation, and conclusion or verification. The results of the research revealed that the effectiveness of SIPADU in supporting the circulation services in the Library State University of Malang has been effective because SIPADU be able to provide convinience for librarians and users in conducting circulation activities. However, there were some factors that needed to be maximized in the management, such as statistical data that were not been detailed and booking feature was sometimes not synchronized between the information in the system with the availability of books on the shelves. It caused the unsatisfied of users, so it is necessary to maximize SIPADU management in order to provide good quality services. The restricting factors was found in the field, as follows; SIPADU management policies, unsettled communication between Pusat Teknologi Informasi dan Komuniikasi (PTIK) and library, and unsustainable training for librarian. The researcher suggest that the central library should be given the authority to manage SIPADU, the library should be proactive in asking questions related to SIPADU at PTIK, and SIPADU training used for library staff on an ongoing basis. Those suggestion hopefully would be useful to improve the system used in the circulation services in order to provide a better service.
